Compounding
Compounding Pharmacists use their knowledge of medicinal chemistry and pharmacotherapy to prepare alternate
dosage forms for patients with unique needs, such as preparing a liquid formulation that was only available in a pill
or solid formulation, preparing hormone replacement therapy, or preparing a formulation without a specific dye or
filler. Compounding pharmacists allow physicians and other health care providers to prescribe medications that
can be tailored to meet patients' needs.
Compounded medications are typically prepared in specialized pharmacies.
Compounding Pharmacists receive compound training in pharmacy school.
